About Turns Out

Most of the time, we don't lack the facts. We just never did the math.

A salary sounds fine until you count the commute, the unpaid overtime, and the messages after dinner. We turn those cold numbers into results you can feel.

How a calculator goes live

  1. Find the twistWe start by asking: will this number make people go "huh" — or send it to a friend? Plain tools with no twist don't make the cut.
  2. Check every numberWe use official sources whenever possible. If we have to cite news coverage instead, the page says so.
  3. Test and reviewEvery formula has automated tests, including edge cases. Before launch, an independent review re-runs the math and checks the wording and sources.
  4. Keep it currentFigures that change every year, like the minimum wage, are updated after the official announcement and logged on our updates page.

Who makes Turns Out

Turns Out is made and maintained by the Fortuneverse team — for now, a team of one. I like digging up the everyday things nobody stops to notice and turning them into something you can see. Once you can see it, it sticks.
